Disruptive bodies (Selected Works), 2017
[A series of photographic self-portraits in which I portray monstrous feminine characters seen in science fiction and horror films. I am foregrounded in images of cells taken from my body, stained, and photographed through a microscope. This is a celebration of the feminine monster’s disruptive, transformative, and unsettling nature that I embody.]

Spectacle, 2016
[series of monoprints with collaged elements. It all comes back to the viewing subject, the spectator who is also a spectacle. The universe is sublime and it sees you, too.]

Stabilization sequence, 2016
The body constantly changes and rarely behaves, regardless of how we want to control or change it. This video projection features me writing and rewriting contradictory phrases on my stomach (soft and vulnerable spot) in lipstick: normal body, abnormal body, my body, your body, etc. The video is projected on the stained cosmetic rounds used to wipe the lipstick off. Although I erase the words, lipstick traces remain on my skin, representing the personal narratives our bodies carry.

from the Ocean, 2016
[Series of stone lithographs and watercolor on paper + digital photo; in which I know going out where everyone can see you is dangerous.]

striptease in space, 2016
[In the cosmos I am alone and unselfconscious. This series of mixed media works, which feature xeroxed self-portraits, ink wash, and glitter, was inspired by the opening scene of Barbarella (film, 1968).]

writing in Circles, 2015
[acrylic on canvas, 10 ft x 10 ft; considering censorship & the erasure of one’s voice, a sheet of canvas with my painted text is walked on over and over by dozens, myself included.]

helmets, 2015
[Digital self-portraits; the dual function of helmets, to keep things good things in, to keep bad things out. But nothing is truly impermeable; there are always cracks, letting bits of the good out and the bad in. I am blinded by fears and choked by expectations.]

Dust to Dust, 2014, ink, acrylic and chalk on repurposed paper

Messy Snail, 2014, quill and ink
in the flesh (selected works), 2014
A small sampling of 8 pieces from my undergraduate thesis show, “In the Flesh”, which featured roughly 150 5x7 inch prints, drawings, and mixed media works. The series reflects on themes of body image, femininity, violence, and identity.

Ritual, 2013
[photo transfers on latex sheets; I took these photos, applying and removing my make-up repeatedly, condensing in minutes what happens over years, decades. A ritual that is so simple, so comforting. I become more desperate for it year after year. Transferred to latex because, in the movies, that’s what they use to make new faces.]
